Tried in the bronco/'sploder page with no luck yet...

So here it is...

is there a t-case and axle that can be swapped in to my 99 explorer to replace what's already there?? if so...which one(s) and how hard would it be?

Electronic T-case? Manual T-case?

Front axle? Rear axle?

Reasons for swapping? (electronic t-case and front axle are self explanatory)

Yes there is. A popular swap is the 4406 t-case swap (its the t-case from an F series) if you have the V-8 explorer, if you have the 6 banger, a 1354 manual is a good choice, or the more expensive atlas...

Sorry about the lack of detail. it's an electronic t-case(yuck) and the front end is the diff with 2 CV axles(double yuck). I'm looking for a t-case that isn't operated by an electric clutch(who was the idiot that thought that one up by the way?) and I'd also like something more robust up front...even if it means ditching the torsion bars in favor of coils or even (maybe) leafs.

If it helps..the truck is the '99 eddie bauer with the SOHC 4.0L

Well in that case, I agree with SVT, a 1354M t-case would be pretty straight forward. Getting the shifter setup through the floor will probably be your biggest headache.

As for the axle. SAS may be your best bet to get away from that IFS setup. I really have never thought about trying to put a TTB under the front of a truck that came as IFS. It's probably about the same amount of work as an SAS job and you don't get much more robust than that.

yeah...i think TTB would be the way i'd want to go. I'll assume that i'll have to have the gearing played with a bit for this to work too...

I highly advise against TTB for a couple reasons...the explorer frame is wider than the ranger, so getting it aligned will be a job, along with the difference in frame widths, the X-member that supports the beam pivot mounts again will be a job both fabricating and aligning... It will be much easier to grab some coil buckets (after clearing the frame of the IFS mounts) set your axle position, mount the buckets, then your tracbar mount, then set your radius arm mounts and your done...

TTB is nothing that great unless you do a lot of desert racing. The ride or handling isn't especially great compared to a solid front axle.

Look up the code on your door sticker to find your gear ratio and simply match the front.

The Dana 44, preferably from an Early Bronco as it is almost dead on the width you need...the rear axle can be drilled then use F150 drums to have matching lug patterns

Sorry, I was thinkin you had a ranger...You could do the same with the discs...redrill for full size lug pattern and use newer F150 rear rotors, will probably need to use the calipers and caliper brackets as well, not sure on that though...

umm...about the lug pattern...would the stock bronco lugs fit the same as the exploder? if so, i'll just leave it alone.

No they are different lug patterns, hence the reason why you have to change the rear...
