Getting ready to do the clutch and rear main on my '92 2wd 5sp. 4.0...

Does the rear of the crank typically groove? It's leaked as long as I've had it, so 65,000+ miles. Engine/tranny are both at 265k.

Just placed the order and had an after thought about a speedy sleeve. Their like $25, is it usually needed?

Thanks

Yes and no.

If it is leaking then yes, for sure sleeve it

You can feel any scratches on the crank that would cause a leak, the scratches don't leak but they do tear at the seal which then leaks

Hey, another question for those still tuned in....

So the repair sleeve said to out the flange side on first.... Tap it on til it bottoms out? Same with the rear main seal, do you bottom it out or keep it flush with the block?

These newer chilton manuals are garbage. "Step 1. Remove old seal. Step 2. Install new seal." .... Thanks... And Hanes isn't an better.

I remember I had a chilton for my Toyota and it was really helpful, then I lost it bought a new one, and the one had about half the information....

They didn't have the disconnect tool, so I guess screw driver. It's the old disconnect style. Is it ok to shoot penetrating oil or wd40 on it while I'm hitting all the other bolts?

To anyone still listening,

The repair sleeve for the crank has a tear off installation flange.

Any trick to getting it off without dropping the pann? Is it ok to leave it on?

Thanks in advance. Rear main and clutch work starts at 6am tomorrow! :D

I've only installed two speedi-sleeves, and neither had a removable flange.

The clutch line disconnect tool looks like a fork with the two center tines missing. Two flat screwdrivers will work too.

Yeah the sleeve I used on my 'yota had no flange. This one has like a fine crease line where you basically peal it off. I just don't think there's room to do it.

I bought a slave that showed a clutch tool, but did not see it in the box. Flat heads it is!

I had to use a sleeve on the 5.0 I put in my Ranger. Bought the installer tool too. All seems to work well after 18k of driving.
