a/c blows hot air. Max a/c blows cool air. Vacuum to water closes on max a/c but is no vacuum in a/c position. Would this be indicative of a vacuum leak between the switch and the manifold, or is the switch itself bad?

I also thought of putting a turn-off valve for water to the heater. Could use this to shut off the heater in summer and open it for winter.

Any easy solutions?:dunno:

Welcome to TRS :)

Reads like the Blend Door is not working, it is electric not vacuum operated.

The Blend door separates the heater core from the vent system, it should be closed when Heat knob/temp is on Cold, it reads like it is open all the time.

Yes, on your 2007 with Max/air selected the system will shut off coolant heater core flow completely, so Blend Door open wouldn't matter, heater core goes cold with no circulation of coolant.

It is not a common issue but it is a known problem with Ford Trucks

For now you could just "T" off another vacuum hose or use a capped(unused) vacuum port on the engine directly to the current valve to hold it closed all the time, plug the end of the vacuum hose on it now with a bolt/screw inserted in the hose, don't leave it open
