I currently have an old busted up shell camper on my ‘89 Ranger xlt Supercab and wanted to know if it was possible to build my own, and what that would entail. It’ll be used mainly for transporting K-9s so I’d like to add a/c if that’s even heard of.

I can't help you with building the shell, but I also plan to travel with a dog (he'll ride in the cab, but sleep with me in the shell), so I was interested in finding this a/c made for dog houses. It comes in two sizes. The trick is to get it installed and operate it. I will be getting a propane generator and carrier, but haven't gone any farther than the planning stage.
