I have an 87 BII 4X4 and have swapped in a 1990 5.0L and AOD trans from a Lincoln Town Car. I currently have the Explorer cast iron manifolds installed; however, would like very much to replace them with headers. For quite some time I've searched for headers that would fit my engine/trans combo with no luck; until now.

According to L&L, their headers, model 797304, will my 87 BII 4X4 with the 5.0L and AOD transmission.

Has anyone here used these headers with a Ranger/BII 4X4 with a 302/5.0L and AOD trans? If so, did they fit well? Did they actually clear the bell housing? Were any modifications required? Finally, can they be installed with the motor already installed in the vehicle?

Thanks for any feedback.

L&L headers fit great in a first gen when used with their swap motor mounts. Haven't personally used them, but that's what I used to hear from people that did the swap using the L&L components. That was years ago though, like a decade plus, and I don't hear about too many people using their stuff any more.

I'm using their swap mounts on my 86 2wd Ranger, picked them up cheap and second hand many years before I had the truck. I'm using "P" heads with modified Explorer EFI so they don't seem like they will fit with my current build. If I do a head swap down the road I may give the 2wd version a try, but if I ditch the "P" heads there are a lot of other options for a 2wd.

Thanks for the info.

I'll have to ask if I "must" use their motor mounts. I'm using the Duff 4X4 mounts.

Yep, have to use their motor mounts with their headers.
