I have a 88 Ranger XLT I just acquired and I only have the ignition key. I do have an owners manual and warranty information with the manual. Can I go to a dealer and have them research the truck and gat a key made? I really am not one to leave their vehicle unlocked all the time.
If I cant get a key made anybody want to buy a truck?

From your question i am going to assume that the doors use a seperate key . it would probably be cheaper to go to a locksmith and have a new key cut or the locks retumbled to fit the ignition key

We (Dealerships) can only get key codes back 10 yrs, we are havin a hard time gettin some 04 codes from VIN#'s.

So in answer to your question, you'll need to get a locksmith to cut you a key. Most good locksmiths can do it on the spot, but not sure of cost.

I had one done for a 87 Mustang few years back that didn't have a trunk key to, he did it on the spot on first try.

Glove compartment break in

Since I have no door keys to my truck I also have no key to my glove compartment . Which is locked. How do I open it without tearing it to pieces?

You can get a locksmith to make a new key for the locks, or get new locks. Can't rekey the door locks to fit the IGN key as the long bends are opposite (like if you look at the very end of the key, one is a "Z" and the other us an "S" if that makes sense).
Just went through the same thing. Bought the truck with no door key. Your 88 will use the door locks with the metal tabs, NOT the big white plastic "spring" type...you'll see the difference. Cost me about $30 on eBay.

EDIT: BTW I can't find any locks that are made with rounded keys, they all look just like the ign keys, but it would be easy to go to wherever you get keys made and get the round blanks cut if that's something you gotta have... Kind of aggravating that the keys will look the same but oh well, I love my Ranger.[emoji41]

Far as the glove box, there is a series of 7mm screws along the bottom, but I think it has to be open to get to them.

I had to break mine by turning it with a screwdriver, but after that there's a tab on either side. You squeeze the sides in to get pas them and the screws appear on the hinge after you fold it all the way down. Haven't found another lock for it yet, but it still closes fine.

I went to the junkyard and pulled the cylinders from a truck that had its door key.

Well the glove box is keyed to the door key, so if you get a locksmith to make a door key it should open the glove box.
