Just finished up my motor swap. I put a 3l from an 01 into my 96. Swaped electronics, intakes, etc. Now here is my issues.
1) the alt shows the voltage at 1/4" above the L and the battery light is on. I replaced the belt and the alt with one I know works. Ideas?

2) I seem to have a extra connector. What's it go to?

When you turn on the key the battery light should come on, the bulb gets 12volts from the ignition switch and is Grounded at the alternator, light green wire usually on the 3 wire connector.
This is actually the on/off switch for the alternator.
When you start the engine the alternator puts out power, so is no longer a Ground, and if you have 12v(or 14v) on each "leg" of a bulb, the bulb goes off.
When the alternator puts out less power than the battery the bulb will come on.

Since you were working with the electrics I would check the fuses in the engine Power Box again, there are two alternator fuses.

Also check the Large terminal on the back of the alternator, it should have 12volts all the time, key on or off doesn't matter.
If no volts then check the Mega Fuse, usually near the Power Box, just follow that big wire from alternator

You seem to have two extra connectors.

The rectangular one center frame goes to the AC compressor, it's receptacle is located at the bottom left of the picture.

The round one I am not sure about, I can't see it well enough.

I think the round one goes to the A/C line near the battery, my 02 has what looks to be the same connector.

Back firing at idle is a good indication that you could have some plug wires at the wrong locations, Just give them a check too while your changing the plugs, its easy to get in a hurry and put it in the wrong spot on the coil
