so i saw a picture of a first gen with a factory tach. does anyone have any info on what the swap is like if i find such a thing? i'm guessing that the other 4 guages are converted to warning lights.

i dont see the guages your talking about. i searched google for 87 rangers and this popped up. not sure if its actually an 87 but i really want a tach because i'm prone to cruising at 1000rpm. and i'm hearing this is bad for the engine...

i have an 88 xlt 4x4, and this is exactly (if i'm not mistaken on a small detail) how mine looks.

The first year of EFI was '86.

I think the wiring harnesses are different from a non tach to a tach trucks.

You lose the oil pressure guage and the Ammeter. They are replaced with lights. Did the conversion anyway ;-)

I had to run a new wire for the Tach, and the alternator had to be wired a little differently for the light to work properly. Then i later put in the 86-88 style cluster to accommodate the check engine light and 4X4 Lo when i swapped to the 4.0. If you carefully map out your wires and study the diagrams for w and w/o guages it can be done.

think if i get a hold of the tach and take out my unit then future shop or someone could do the wiring?

i got a new deck and ripped out the old speakers and i am going to get futureshop to throw in two cheapies and do the wiring for that.:thefinger: just get them to do my dirtywork.
