the wife has a 04 merc mountaineer whats the biggest tire I can fit without rubbing on anything

Well I am not sure what the body style is... but if its like the explorers you may be able to fit a 31 under it...

if it is like the expedition then probably 33's is the largest I would go.

2004 is going to be one of the IRS trucks. According to Discount Tire's website, they list a number of sizes with the largest being 305/35-24 with more sane sizes being 305/60-18 or 275/70-17.

They all seem to be about 32" tall give or take half an inch and between 10 and 12" wide. You might get away with a 33" tire although some trimming might be required. You might also have to change the wheels if the tires won't clear when steering.

and don't forget that the extra weight at the corners will effect the ride quality. More rotating mass means the suspension is working harder. The OEM shocks on most vehicles are never very good and can be nearly useless with big rubber. I'd replace them with a quality set of aftermarket units if you haven't done so already.

was looking at some 265 70 17s so looks like they will work
