I was overthinking this in another thread. Is there another model Borg Warner t-case like the 4404 or 4406 that will bolt-up to my 2001 Edge 4.0 with 5R55E tranny? I want something that I can drive on dry roads or, as happens, from dry spots, to icy spots, to snowy spots. I am also thinking I could launch quicker with all four pulling as I want to add more power.

Anyone done this to eliminate the part time 1354?

I am likely to part-out and swap-in my Explorer front axle and rear axle for the 373 gearing and rear disk brakes.

I was researching a similar question and I am think there was a viscous or clutch pack type transfer case on the early aerostar awd vans. These were bolted to the a4ld and m5od. Iirc its a t22 or t20?

I am thinking the biggest problem is the newer 5R55E tranny and what will bolt to it. I also doubt there is an adapter as there would not be much of a market for it. I like my electronically shifted 5 speed which I can control with my Tweecer tuner.

Maybe I again am over thnking it and need to check what is in the newer model Rangers?

I know there are earlier models with Auto4x4, 4hi and 4lo. I don't know if they will bolt-up to the newer 5R55E in my 2001? The simplest solution would be a manual shift, I think.

I can't find an easy answer, 98 -01 BW4405 from an explorer could bolt-up but would require the electronics to make the clutch work and may need some work to fit in between the frame rails.

I like the idea of getting the AWD 4406 to fit since is uses a viscous manual type coupling to send power to the front wheels, no electronics................ but it would require an adapter since it only came behind the V8.

Screw-it, looks like more hassle than it's worth.
