Default Random Question about 5.0l conversion

When looking for the explorer for the 5.0l conversion can both Ranger and explorer be Manual or Auto. i read 3 articles on it and saw nothing on that, still in the research phase.

Well you won't find a 5.0 expo in manual I don't believe. But as long as you have the computer to run the explorer ir can be converted to manual with a tune. And if your truck is manual u can always swap it over to stick or vise versa. Im not sure exactlt where your question is aimed but maybe im on track?

Your correct, the 96-01 v8 ex was never offered in a manual trans, only 2wd auto and awd auto, all years had the 4r70w trans, 99-01 had slightly better internals. A tune can remove the auto trans feature as stated...

A tune is not necessary to swap to a manual trans. You will have to have a jumper wire on the trans wiring harness to close the neutral safety switch. You will also need to find the reverse wires if you want your reverse lights to work. But other than that you can just let the rest of the harness be. It's really simple to do. What tranny are you going to use?

Yes, your on track, i just preffer a stick to auto and was having no luck finiding it online, 89Ranger.

5liter, i am still a noob to this, though i have owned 2 Rangers before(01 2w & 04 4x4) and want to buy another. I loved both of those trucks! and found out you could do a 5.0 swap and regret that i sold both for a civic.

What little research i have done, will a M5OD-R1HD transmission work and i have never messed with the harness, trying to find pics and parts to make a list and when i get back to the States buy the Ranger and Explorer and take my time to learn and swap over all parts to the Ranger. If memory serves me right i want to swap the 01 explorer into an 01 Ranger, i think it said they where compatable?!(sorry for misspells)
Again i'm in the research phase(making a list of all parts).

The r1 trans won't bolt up to the v8, you need an r2 trans from an f150 or a ZF trans...

Will that fit on an 01 302, quick google search says only up to 96?

All SBF over head valve engines share the same bolt pattern from the 70's all the way to 2k... Do a search on here for v8 swaps and read other's swaps close to yours. There have been so many swaps done on TRS alone to find all your answers...

For transmissions you can use any tranny with a small block bellhousing. 300 I6, 289, 302, and 351w all have the same bellhousing and I think the 4.7l v6 in the f150 have the right bellhousing. When you're ready I can give you the info on how to do the harness. If you are going 4x4 then you will most likely want a married tranny/t case setup. The m5od r2 tranny will work fine for most set ups. After a few mods you will want to go to a zf5. They are WAY stronger. But for a pretty mildly built 5.0 the m5od r2 will be fine. They shift smooth and easy to come by. Also you will need a 50 oz. Imbalance flywheel, starter, custom drivelines, and a few other misc. Things.
