Hello everyone,

This is my first post. I'm building an 85 Bronco II. I want to swap in a dana 35 front axle. I have a D35 out of a 92 Ranger. My research says the 95-97 Ranger D35 is the one I want because it has the twin piston calipers and thicker disk. I'm having trouble finding a D35 out of a 95-97 Ranger. My question is: Is the only difference between a 95-97 "hybrid" D35 front axle assembly and a regular D35 axle assembly the third member? Or put another way can I just swap my D35 third member into "hybrid" front axel assembly? My research here alludes to the fact that the third member maybe the only difference but I want to be sure before I spent my $. There seems to be a lot more "hybrid" axles available and cheaper too. Thanks in advance for your help.

The inner axle shafts are different also.

Thanks for the quick reply. So can I use the D35 3rd member and D35 inner axle shafts on a "hybrid" axle assembly?... I guess I should just ask what the differences are? Thanks again for the quick response!

Inner stub on passenger's side is longer (they have to "reach" from the end of the differential to the Dana 28 "guts")

Dana 28 "guts" are also 23 spline while the Dana 35 "guts" are 27 splines.

Answer the question for you? :)

I guess the short answer is to wait for a 95-97 D35 to come available. But I'm curious. On the Hybrid axle are the outer shafts 27 spline? Do they use a D35 spindle? Are the axle U-joints 1.188" caps or are they the D28 1.062"?
I'm just trying learn about all this stuff. I appreciate the help!

Hubs and everything on the knuckle should be the same as a D35.

swap the pumpkin and the two shafts that go into the pumpkin and everything else is the same. Keep the outer shaft from the drivers side as its interchangeable with the regular D35 once you get the U joint off...

Thanks everyone for the responses. I'm glad to know I have options. Being able to swap in the D35 pumpkin and the inner axles should make it cheaper and easier to find a donor axle assembly. Thanks again.
