Not necissarily, but if you consider that the dual tank option was a fairly expensive option the additional cost of an optional limited slip rear axle
wasn't really a huge leap in price.

The rear swaybar I run is from a 2wd Bronco2
IT's the thickest rear bar ever factory fitted to a
Ranger/Bronco2 from the factory.

when I eventually go to an Explorer axle I'll use the rear sway bar
from a 1993-94 F-150 Lightning, because when loaded with coal
(in addition to the fuel) the 1" rear bar I run now feels a little "mushy"

Do remember that with all that fuel the truck "Sticks" real well, the
issues with the heavy sway bar arise when I'm running with less than
a half load of fuel.

a full load of fuel is only 490lbs.

So, yeah, there are "handling differences" with major changes in fuel load.

My 84 2.0 has dual tanks. I don't think that you can switch between them though. You have to go under the truck and turn a lever to open up the fuel line to it and then turn the key (not crank the engine) and flip the switch and a fuel pump fills the main tank.

My 1984 Ford Ranger had dual tanks. It didn't have a posi-trac or limited slip rear differential in it either LOL. Loved that truck...only wish I knew about the duraspark conversion in 2005 and I'd still have that truck. It didn't run worth crap after the damn Ford Garage touched it.

Both tanks, the selector switch, and the gauge still functioned properly when I sold the truck.

These are old pictures from 1989 when my grandparents still owned the truck, but here they are nonetheless LOL.

You can barely see the rear tank filler door in the picture.

I really wish I could find the truck, probably has been destroyed by now, but I'd really love to get it back if it is still around.

Well, that didn't work. Let's try something else!
Who knew my little old farm truck project has some rare options. It's got the switch on the dash and it all works. The back tank leaks if it's over half full, tho.

Does anyone know who still makes the rear tanks? I'm making tentative plans for a dual-tank Mazda B2500 (1998, cab-plus with a 17 gal midship tank and a 'style-side' bed) and this project won't go anywhere if I can't find the hardware.

PS: I already know I'll need to cut out the rig for the spare tire. If anyone knows where I can get a bracket to mount to the side inside the bed, then I'd appreciate you sharing.

I've heard that LMC truck has the bed mount for the spare. Might check there for the tank, too. They have A LOT of ranger parts.

Thanks, but it's a no-go. They only have the midship tanks and the Bronco II tanks, just like everyone else, it seems. (Although I think I have seen an article somewhere about someone modifying their ranger to accept a Bronco II tank.)

The only luck I'm having is this website: http://www.car-part.com/

But their search function returns so many hits that I wonder if it's really at all accurate. Oh well. Maybe I'll get lucky and get one on the cheap that has a working sending unit as well!

Also, will the same sending unit used in the mid-tank work on the rear? Because the after-market manufacturers seem to think so. :icon_confused:

Beej, check the for sale section. There's dual tanks and bed mount spare tire parts.

The sending units are NOT interchangeable.

Nobody is making aftermarket rear tanks, to my knowledge. I would love to find a new one, because mine is beyond trashed and I deleted the front tank. So if anyone has a lead on a brand new rear tank for an '86 Ranger, let me know... I am otherwise going to have to put a fuel cell in it.
