I have a 1983 Ford Ranger that I am putting in a 351w in and I was wondering what dipstick i could use for an AOD transmission that would clear everything because i know its going to be a tight fit.

I would work on getting the engin with the transmission set in first. with the aod you can use the stock trans x mimber, but it needs tobe moved back 1 inch . have fun getting the rivits out. alsoif you have a ac truck see if you can find a none ac heater box. you will need to notch it plug the trans dipstick tube with a rage tell you have all that done. I used a conduit bending tool to reshape mine be careful not to kenk it. Mine has a302 and aod so good luck:icon_welder:

PS I also used a2 inch body lift andhammered thefirewall to floor pinch weld flat to make room for the trany.

You should be able to use the factory one without much issue, bent it a little bit. All else fails use a lokar one. I prefer the factory set up, much easier to read and cheap. If it were an offroad truck the lokar is better because it's sealed.

I am doing the same swap right now 351/AOD and i didn't use Lokar to much money but i did use a braided steel dipstick and part was for a C6 and didn't say it would work for a AOD but the parts guy let me take it home and try it. Works like a charm. only paid 40$ :)
