I have Polk 5x7" 2-ways in my Ranger, and Pioneer 6" and 6x8" 3-ways in my car. I didn't even bother looking at the low price speakers; I started with the mid priced and then listened to the ones the stores had on display for clarity.

What I hate the most is a speaker that can't properly deliver all parts of the audio spectrum. I also don't have any subs in my vehicles, but those speakers do just fine by themselves.

Btw, for speaker testing purposes, I recommend listening to songs off of Pink Floyd's "The Dark Side of the Moon". Every song has those quiet and loud moments that can really sound different with different quality speakers.

Depending in your budget you have a lot of options. I'm running a set of kenwood 5.25 components with an adaptor plate that lets me put the tweeter right above the speaker in my doors and a set of kenwood 2 way 6x8s in the rear location cause in a single cab the position is less then optimal so I didn't put great speakers in there. In an extended cab I probably would have cause the position is better. And I have them amped through an alpine power pack 4channel amp (ktp-445) that plugs into the back of an alpine headunit. The speakers are very clear with great highs and decent lows.

^^^ dark side of the moon is a good one to test to, and for clarity there is a song called "solar energy" that is a jazz instrumental that we use to test pro audio Equiptment.

If your gunna upgrade your speakers though and haven't upgraded your head unit I would recommend you do them at the same time or the head unit first

I just realized, why isn't this posted in the "Audio/Visual" thread?

You'd have more help if you posted it there.

I have 4 kenwood 6x8's off ebay and they sound pretty sweet for a decent price. and i agree with the other guy, you definitely want a new head unit before new speakers.

What year is your truck? Extended or single cab? Exactly which covers are you talking about? The door panels or the rear covers in the single cab?

Your talking about the full covers that are trim pieces on the rear doors right? They just pop into place with the clips that are on there. But there are alignment pins on them that if they arnt correct it won't fall back into place, you can play with it until it will clip back in

Amazon has some JBL's for crazy prices right now.
I bought 2 coaxials for the rear, and two components for the front. Paid just over $200 for them.

Locally I would have paid over $400 for them. No idea how they sound as I haven't installed, but I wanted cheap speakers. Ended up getting mid priced speakers for cheap. Even if they don't sound good I can sell em locally and profit.

If they don't sound that amazing out of the box don't sell them right away. Throw an amp behind them and you will be blown away
