I build boats which means I drive a lot of expensive silicon-bronze screws (pretty weak) into often very tough wood (white oak). When a bag of screw costs as much as the tool you are driving them with, you are'nt using a Black and Decker or Ryobi. You want precise trigger control and a reliable clutch. The best I have is a Porter Cable cordless. I use it to drive the screw. I use 3 other drills as well--big cheap ones for drilling the pilot hole, drilling the shank hole and cutting the countersink. They don't last--the batteries can't take constant recharges. For long, heavy boring I use an old Craftsman corded drill I got for a wedding present.

I don't know if Porter Cable is still making cordless drills, but it's a fine tool if they are.

I have a B&D firestorm that sucks. And a Dewalt 14.4v cordless that is fantastic.

i have a craftsman 19-something volt with the li-po batteries.....it dont last long but its a strong drill....got a 3year warranty with it for an extra 15 bucks or something
The only thing i have to complain about is the life of the battery....but they only take 45min to charge so i guess it evens out

At the company I work for we do a LOT of drilling through concrete... we've got a pair of hilti hammer drills, a Black and Decker hammer drill and a smaller Dewalt hammer drill...the Hiltis are very nice drills, they don't kick very hard and are fairly quick, however I'm not too sure about their durability. One of our techs managed to break his...I'm not entirely sure what he did to it but now the drill starts grinding internal gears whenever the bit binds up a little. As long as you back it out every couple inches it still works good. The Black and Decker busts through the fastest, however it kicks HARD...it sent one of our tech's hands into the side of a door and crushed his pinkie finger. The smaller dewalt is probably the most reliable, they've had it as long as anybody can remember and it's taken a beating and just come back for more, even though it takes a little longer to get through the concrete since it's smaller.

I have a Bosch corded drill that is awesome. For cordless drills, Dewalt is it as far as I can see.

By the way, I like your signature. The only other tools that compare to American made, are German made.

Yeah, I mean a $600 14.4V Festool is probably a good machine, but I'll never find out.

Well, it IS a "sig" now and it is FAR from the first time I've said something
"off the cuff" and had someone adopt it...

Exactly, me either.

Hell my Ryobi clutch driver corded drill has been awesome, and it cost like 29 bucks. Good power and range.

Well I blew up the first miluakee in less than two months. It was a combo of the shitty harbor frieght notcher and me putting too much pressure on it. Now it gets real hot and makes a loud noise when operated. Luckily its within Homo Depots warranty period so I took it back and got another. Ill try to treat this one better as Im confident it wasnt the manufacterers fault the first one failed. It has nearly broken my wrist a few times when I wasnt paying close enough attention. :icon_thumby:
