Will a receiver hitch from a 2nd gen Explorer/Mountaineer fit a 1st gen Explorer?

Everything I have found so far suggests that it will but I figured I'd see if anyone here knows for sure. The junkyard has a bunch of 2nd gen trucks with receiver hitches and I'd like to pick one up for my '92 if it will for sure fit.

i would have to assume that since you can swap a v8 from a 2nd gen to a 1st gen, and itll bolt in, that the frame dimensions are the same. other than that the only issue i might see is that, i notice some hitches the bolt tabs fold out, and some fold in. 2x2 square stock should solve that problem? or possibly just cut the tabs off and drill new holes.

Yeah, it seems to depend on the "class" of hitch you get, and the brand... out of the 4-5 hitches I looked at, they all attached in different ways and in different places, the easiest being the one with two bolts going through the angled holes in the frame and two more above that (no drilling required, it looks like.)

I can make anything fit but easier is better in this case, I am trying to avoid trashing my rear bumper by hooking a trailer onto it... I know with my luck that WILL happen if I try it.
