For those of you with an Explorer Overhead.

Problem.

I was in the truck checking the dome light wires, and I realized that they OHC might not even fit. I have a sun roof.

I have about 8.5 inches of headliner between the curve into the windshield, and the start of my sun roof.

Think it will fit? I don't.

front to back its 11 inches..:bawling:

Well that sucks.

I might pick one up, and tear it apart. Then build my own overhead console with fiberglass and put the components into it. Won't be happening to soon though. I don't need the handy little garage door opener thing so that won't even be a part of it. Next time I'm up there I'll grab the blue one I already pulled. No sense in going through the trouble of taking the gray one out if I can't use the stock console anyway.

Custom work always makes me happy. Even though I'll have no clue what I'm doing, it will be "me". One of a kind. :icon_thumby:

I was going to put in some Explorer buckets and do a custom center console anyway.

I always thought as an alternative, taking a 4x4 switch panel and putting the OHC LCD in there. I think it'd be a tight fit but that'd almost be more convenient to look at.

Alrighty. I'd rather go blue, because if I keep the truck I plan on going with white gauges and blue LED's.

But green would match until I get the funds to do that..

Hmm.. hard choice.

Got measurements today. So I'm doing up a paper version that will be followed by a 3D cardboard mock up.

No clue when I actually will get around to glassing it.. it might just sit on a shelf for a month or so as a Styrofoam/putty skelly before I get the funds to buy some stuff to glass it with.

Hopefully when it's done, I'll paint it black and red. Since that's how I'm eventually going to do up my interior.

Originally the design was going to incorporate two map lights, and the temp. gauge. Now it's just going to be the gauge and a small dome light of some sort. I didn't have room for that origional design, so it had to change. No clue what I'll get the pieces for that from, but I'm thinking something in a rounded rectangle shape. Nothing too square or too round. It just wouldn't look right.

Cardboard is no fun to work with if you don't know what size dome light, temp gauge, etc your putting in. Also, I'm torn between having the gauge mount above the rear view and slightly in front of it. It's a tight fit if I put it above it.

This project is on hold until I can acquire the console and dome.

Well if you happen to get a green one I have a blue lens I could send to you.
