I just saw one of these on the freeway the other night and about shit myself (not this exact one, just googled for an example):

What I want to know is... WHY DON'T WE SEE MORE OF THESE? Holy crap!!! I'm pretty sure if they made more of these, Ranger sales would have been through the roof! I know so many people that only dislike the Ranger for lack of a crew cab. This thing is crazy sick, does anyone know more about it?

They were made for other markets but never brought here because it failed rollover testing IIRC.

Apparently there are tons in South America.

Other question, where the hell are you that you saw a crew cab Ranger?

If he was near the mexican border that would explain it. The owner just drove it across for a visit.

I live in Anaheim, California. Maybe 2 hours from Mexico, I think. That might have been it, I don't recall where the plates were from. Definitely not California, though. Driving up behind it I noticed it said "Ranger", then as we passed it I'm like "Oh, nevermind, it's just a tacoma. I read it wrong, somehow". Then, I look at the front and see "Ranger" again and pretty clearly a Ranger front clip... and I just couldn't believe it. I really wish they had made these here.

I like it! Put a 6FT bed and Ecoboost 4 or V6....turbo diesel? Ford would have a big hit!:icon_idea:

Which still didn't sell well. Then they changed it to IRS after a few years, and offered the V8 in them too.

Honestly, if I ever get something to replace my Ranger, it will be a 1st gen ST, and I'll cram a 4.6L in it.

that truck is pretty sweet. my 03 has the 4 door supercab which is nice but doesnt compare to the way that truck is set up. i would even sacrifice 6" off my box (so it would be 5-1/2') to get the extra cab length. should have made that in an FX4 Level II, i would have been on the search for one of those a year ago when it was new truck time lol

I may be wrong. But I think the chassis was very different. A subframe instead of solid frame. I've heard the sport tracs arent nearly the same animal as the ranger.

I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!

You are. The ST is on an Explorer chassis.... Which is almost the same as the Ranger. (1st gen ST, 2nd gen... not so much.)

It's actually a Gen 2 Explorer with a truck bed. And the Gen 2 Explorer is a Ranger with an SUV body instead of a truck bed. Therefore, a Gen 2 Explorer with a truck bed is a 4 door Ranger.
