I am looking at picking a welder up in the next month or 2.

Have any of you tried the hobart 210mvp mig welder? I was wondering if it was a good welder or not. Looking into it for welding some d.o.m. tubing and doing my own sas/fabrication.

The 110/220v combo was a plus for me but wondering if there is anything better for around the same cost/210amp is enough

Thank you

I have heard nothing but good things about Hobart welders. I was also considering the MVP. A few guys on here have 140's and love them. A few others have 190's for heavier fabrication work.

Go to Northern Tool's website. They have tons of reviews on Hobart products.

This document will show you metal thickness and shielding gas. From that you can determine if it will weld the tube you are using.

If you plan to use it on 220V power, you will need a 50 amp circuit in your electrical panel.

If you go down to the Handler 190, you will only need a 30 amp circuit.

didnt notice it was 50amp when I was looking at it. guess I need to look at my dryer circuit when I get home. I think it's only 30/35amps... .wonder how much it cost to upgrade the curcuit/install a 220v. because I definitely want to run it on 220v.

You'll need to replace the wire with #6 AWG 3 conductor w/ ground. Here is a an example of it: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Southwire-6-3-NM-Wire-Black-By-the-Foot-63950099/204632777

The breaker for my box is $9 at home depot. http://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-Q-Line-50-Amp-2-in-Double-Pole-Circuit-Breaker-THQL2150/100356513

I believe this is the outlet you need: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Leviton-50-Amp-2-Pole-Flush-Mount-Grounding-Single-Outlet-Black-R61-05374-000/202077691

I just checked Northern tool's website and it said you only need a 30 amp circuit. But Hobart's paperwork suggests a 50 amp circuit. I would trust their paperwork first. Maybe call Hobart to verify.

No problem. Make sure the outlet you have is rated for 50 amps. They sell a 30 amp and 50 amp model.

Just to throw it out there, if you have to upgrade the existing and you have spare space in the breaker panel, just add a second outlet. Then you won't have to unplug the dryer every time you need to weld. It will cost a few $$$ more because you'll need a box for the outlet and that's it.

According to Hobarts web site, it pulls 24 amps on 220v and 20 amps on 115v.

You are correct Martin. The numbers I saw were the plug ratings. For some reason the 115V plug is rated for 15 amps and the 230V plug is rated for 50 amps.

My apologies for the confusion.

I have a hobart 190 and have used it on many large projects and the welder is flawless. I would reconend a hobart unit hands down

If you have two slots empty in your breaker panel just dedicate a circuit for the welder?

Go with the heavy guage wires you can allways just put in a bigger breaker in the future.
