Don't quite understand but will try to answer.
I assume your 1997 Ranger 4.0l has a stock automatic trans, for manual conversion you want an M5OD-R1, or M5OD-R1HD from a 4.0l 2WD.
1990-2012 rangers with 4.0l used M5OD-R1 or R1HD so they are quite common, 4.0l OHV or SOHC doesn't matter, 2WD does matter.
On the inside of the truck you need to remove the steering column shifter, and the single brake pedal assembly.
Then install the clutch/brake pedal assembly and clutch master cylinder and its reservoir on the firewall.
Also, of course, the hole in the floor for the manual shifter.
Your 1997 computer is for a vehicle with an automatic, so if the automatic is not there it will turn on the CEL(check engine light) and it will stay on...........forever, so you may also want to get 1997 computer from a Ranger with 4.0l and manual trans, 2WD or 4WD doesn't matter to computer.
There are quite a few V8 conversion options.

The M5OD-R2 manual trans on 1997-2003 F-150 with V6 will fit 302/5.0l engine, both have same bolt pattern and shifter position on those years is only an inch or 2 different than M5OD-R1
