New to the forum. Great articles and info! Just picked up a 2003 Ranger 3.0 Edge, I know wannabe 4X4, but best I could find in my budget and here on da island. Gotta ask.....whats up with the cruise control buttons on these Rangers? Every one I've seen has jacked buttons...all melted and rubbery. Ordered a new set on Amazon, but worried they going melt like the originals.
Installed a new synchro shaft after reading the article on the 3.0s..great info. Did a mini tuneup and she is running pretty good. Got some racks and I'm getting close to using this beast for some extracurricular activities!

Howdy and welcome to TRS~!

I have never seen a Ranger with cruise so can't say that I've noticed melted buttons...perhaps someone else will comment on this and if there is a problem I'm sure it will be mentioned on here somewhere...

l would just go ahead and install the new buttons/panel otherwise...it probably gets hot under that cover...and you are on the island where I've never been and it is probably hot and sunny but my only memories of that come from watching Magnum P.I. about forty years ago...

Since I live in Canada where not too much melting happens most of the year it is not so much a problem...

You could also post in another section of the site...like if there is a members forum for your area...might get more pertinent answers there...or even the hotter areas of continental USA like Arizona or others...

Search the site if you haven't already done so...maybe search on "melted steering" or similar...

Cruise keeps me out of trouble

Thanks Mark for the forum info. Yes, it must be the extreme heat and UVs here on the island. I noticed the new buttons I installed have a soft rubber type covering not a hard plastic so I believe it will be a matter of time before these new buttons go. I will have to post another thread, maybe there is an aftermarket supplier that makes a hard plastic version. I have found that the cruise keeps me outta trouble.....5mph over the speed limit and I haven't got another speeding ticket! That aside, I am enjoying my Ranger. I had been looking for one for quite some time, and I am glad I waited to find one because it is the perfect pickup for the tight parking and roads here.
