Gm 6.0?

Do you think a 6.0 swap from a 2002 GMC into a bronco ii be worth it? Or just stupid crazy fun?

They seem to be decent engines. I was talking to a guy the other day who claimed to have not changed the oil in his 6.0 in over 140,000 miles and wasn't having issues.

IIRC they like to eat intake gaskets, so make sure it hasn't been ran low on coolant.

Do you know if there is a stand alone harness for the engine. Also how is the after market? I don't know if this is one of those LS engines. It does say vortec

an '02 will be an LQ4 and it is an LS engine, that is one of the most common engine setups out there, that engine is simpler than the newer ones that have the cam phasing (they started around '07 through current, few iterations here and there with MAP sensor changes and E85 injectors in '09 I believe). The 6.0L is a good reliable engine, that's why it is still being made, apparently it's the biggest gas engine you can get in a 2500 or 3500 truck now after they nixed the 8.1L, you can get a direct injected 6.2L (at least 50 more horsepower) in the 1500 but apparently it isn't heavy duty enough for the bigger trucks...

As for a stand alone harness, that shouldn't be too hard to come by, I don't know much about the automotive side of things though as I'm in the Marine side of things... I'm more familiar with the newer engines and what it takes to get them going, we don't have any parts left over from those engines otherwise I would say to ask work tomorrow (although a harness from us is $500+ most likely...)

Personally, a good stout 351 with a 4bbl would run just as hard, and be helluva lot eaiser. But thats just my opinion.

You can get a plug n play stand alone ecm for the 6.0l.... I think painless keeps them in stock.... I'm gonna go with Dustin on this though.... it's imoral to put a chevy engine into a Ford.

My buddies got an 02 3/4 ton with a 6.0. Its not impressive.

If you put a good cam, intake, headers, and maybe a set of heads on a windsor, itll take the 6.0s lunch AND bang its gf after school.

I'm building a 396 Windsor using edelbrok efi heads and truck intake, converting to MAF and odb2 so I can run 10lbs of boost without tuning. My short block builder estimated a reliable daily drivable 850rwhp.

In my opinion the biggest benefit of a 6.0 is the lifetime, my dad has an 02 2500 with over 295,xxx miles, and over half of those miles are towing.......only big issue it has had was the trans went out once. Now it ticks when it starts cold and doesn't idle great in the winter mornings. But it still makes enough power to haul heavy stuff if you're patient, and it's had a long life of hard work.

But it would probably be easier to go with a carb engine, and alot of people will hate on you for putting a chevy engine in a ford.
But i've also heard from a number of people that a stock 6.0 bottom end can take a turbo and 500 hp without frequent issues. (Anytime you turbo a naturally aspirated engine, it will probably not run forever)
At the end of the day it seems like a preference issue. But I will say, a stock 6.0 needs at least a tune in order to be fun, it was designed to work, not race

I've also heard from guys getting 18-19 highway in a silverado 6.0 with a good tune, could be a little off from the truth, but in a ranger would be better yet.
But at the same time, a good 302 will yield you 20-22 mpg highway

I get 19 in the old neglected f150 with a 302

If you're trying for MPG's, while you're doing work, maybe swap to a 3.08 rear. That's what my '92 has and it pulls 22 on the highway at 75.
