This evenening I took the back left tire off my ranger to diagnose a brake noise, doing so we noticed the hub has about a quarter to a half inch of play in and out with the same on the other side. I have asked around and heard a bad wheel bearing, differential or c clips in the differential, which will result in the tire coming off, other than the break noise ( a broken piece from the parking brake) there haven’t been any noticeable differences in the truck yet. And experiences or insights on this would be greatly appreciated.

A 1/4" play is probably normal. 1/2" is excessive.
