So I swapped a 2000 explorer column into my 98 ranger, as suggested for the pats. Well now the dinger dings when theres no key in, when the key is on, the wipers are always on, and when i turn the wipers to the on position, the squirters kick on, haha. Can anyone point me in the direction to check first? I'm kinda slow when it comes to electrical. :icon_confused:

Problem solved. Bad multi fuction switch and the new ignition cylinder was missing the plastic piece that breaks up the connection for the dinger when theres no key in it.:yahoo:

For future reference, the black plastic device that bolts to the outside of the ignition cylinder (where the key goes) that has a sleeve with 4 wires is the pats transceiver, this is the only part you need to swap, not the entire column. There should be the mounting bosses there for it...

Yea I ended up realizing that after I got home and really looked at it. Luckily it wasn't a waste, because my column was in pretty rough shape. The shifter was all broken, wiring problems. One headache that was a pretty simple fix, lol.

That's funny because I just swapped an explorer column into my ranger and the same exact thing happened even though I had been driving the explorer the week before problem free. Swapped my multi switch and and no more issues!

Haha, I thought my Ranger one was no good, turns out it was just some faulty wiring somewhere else I guess..works perfect on the Explorer column.
