My 95 Ranger has 191,xxx and is leaking oil pretty bad from the oil pan so I checked the torque and it's over tight. There is also some leaks under the timing belt cover, as well as the rear main (or so it looks). I just bought all new seals and gaskets, timing belt, tensioner, and water pump and I'm gonna pull the engine and replace them. What are some areas to be especially vigilant of besides a dab of RTV in corners? I already have the auxiliary shaft cover alignment tool from my Mustang, anything else? The valve cover and oil pan gaskets are the fel-pro blue with crush preventers. Thanks,

Nate Sanders

Make sure your valve covers and oil pan are straight and haven't been deformed from over torque.

Make sure your PCV system is working correctly so the pressure is relieved from inside.

Just for grins, set the engine to the timing marks before taking stuff apart.

Thanks and thanks, I definitely know about setting everything up, this is my second 2.3, the other is in a 88 mustang and is turbo. Unfortunately (as most plastic belt covers do), the timing cover on my Mustang broke when I first disassembled it so I have been using the string method for years.

Something else to note is to seal the lower 4 exhaust manifold bolts with high temp Teflon, they intersect head bolts holes and may seep oil.
