My credo
Broke, had to learn...
Adding a Sunpro Super Tach 2 to a 1993 2wd Ranger with a 2.3 and 5-speed. Truck is a bare bones XL model, so did not come with tach. Can get illumination and dim, but can't get the tach to pick up from the tan wire with yellow stripe near the power distribution box. :icon_confused:
This is an older tach from another project that was never used, so its possible it could be bad, but before I buy another one, has anyone had issues with no signal to the tan and yellow wire?:annoyed:

Thanks in advance.

Set Volt meter to AC volts
Connect meter to Tan wire and a good Ground.
Start engine
You should see 1 to 6 volts on meter, voltage will rise and fall with RPMs.

If you don't see voltage then try tan wire and 12volts instead of Ground

This doesn't mean tach wire is 100%, just that it is connected.
You would need an oscilloscope or RPM meter to do a proper test.

The lighting in the tach is an unconnected circuit to the tach function, it uses dash light wire and Ground.

Dimmer switch------------tach light bulb--------------ground

The tach uses the 12v wire(key on) and the Tan wire as it's ground.

Ignition switch----------Tach gauge-------------ICU(ignition control module)

Universal tach will have switches/setting for different engines, i.e. 4cyl to V8, try changing the setting then change back to V6
