yes, the screen is good for catching dinner bugs...but just remember that the screen allows air passage but it is very restrictive...it can act as a resistance on the highway so your gas mileage might suffer a bit...

If you can just cover one half of the area that would protect the parts you want and allow good air flow for cooling and less resistance.

sounds like kind of a catch 22. The whole point is air flow and you try to protect it, it restricts flow.

finding a happy medium I guess, hardware cloth like ive made small animal pens out of maybe has about 1/4 inch size holes

There are fin brushes you can use to clean and straighten the fins.

Almost anywhere in AZ you need a bug screen this time of year (or a ton of patience for cleaning). I have never seen anything like it. You can completely plug up the thing in a hundred miles when the butterflys get going.

You used to be able to buy them made out of fiberglass cloth. Maybe something like this http://www.jcwhitney.com/rugged-ridge-radiator-bug-screens/p2004872.jcwx

I use home metal door screening for all my vehicles. Cut to size, tie a string at the top and let it hang freely in front of the condenser. Never had a problem with cooling or the A/C. And it has been working for years, stopping everything from bugs, bits of debris, to pebbles. To clean it, just rinse it down when washing the vehicle.

I ditto on the 1/4'' wire fabric, it will catch the big chunks and still allow good air flow, rocks would have
to hit just perfect to get through.
