98 ford ranger wont engage 4x4

my 98 ranger will not engage into 4wheel drive. when I turn the switch on dash, I can hear it click, but nothing happens. could it be electrical? How do I test for this? Help please

I had the exact same problem 2 or 3 weeks ago. Tracked it down to fuse # 27, I believe. I had the 4x4 lights and I heard the relays clicking, but no engagement. I think it was the same fuse as the back-up lights.

My info was correct. My Ranger is also a '98. The fuse is in the cab fuse panel

I'm having the same problem checked and changed fuse #27 still here relay clicks what ealse could be the problem

Pull your front hub caps, check the hubs, I had one that cracked, installed new one three years ago
been fine since then.
