I will be dropping this as a project. It needs more than I'm willing to give. I already have projects that need time and money invested.
Things have changed in my life and I require a full size pickup as a DD.
The engine will probably go into the Ranger. I'm hoping to make this last another three or so weeks.

Haha. No, although I could stand to have a gold plated pension I ain't cut out for politics.
But the constant problems this thing gives have got to me. It isn't cut out to be a driver and facing having to replace the trans I'm choosing to cut my losses instead. Nobody would bat an eye if I bought a $500 5.0 Sploder for parts which, except for driving it for nearly two years since purchase, is pretty much whats gonna happen.

I'm a glutton for punishment, I guess. And to prove it, I've started seeing if I can fix it. lol

I don't know what it is about RBV's but some twisted stupid part of me wants to fix and keep them when the practical thing to do is to get rid of the thing before it really gets expensive.
But then I found a used 4R70W on Craplist and my lame brain goes "you could fix it..." and the downward spiral continues...

I understand the appeal of the 5 speed. But I drive a 15 speed Kenworth for a living so I want my dd to have the pathetomatic in it.

Per usual, the guy with the 4R70W hasn't got back to me yet.
But the guy with a 4406 manual quoted $125 and driveshafts at the Pick n pull are $35 each. The yard has a 5.0 Sploder (transmissions are $99 + $20 core) but I don't know how picked clean it is. I haven't priced the 1330 hybrid u joint as yet. Those are the major parts to put a transfer case in these things.

That appeals to me.

Too bad you are not closer, I know where there is going to be a manual 4406 laying on the ground by this weekend. They are pretty much a PITA to pull politely, if possible use a cordless sawzall or a torch on the t-bar crossmember.

Watch driveshafts in JY's... just about all the ones I see are bent up from the vehicle being moved by a payloader with forks.

The rear one on the F-150 I am pulling the M5OD out of was pretty well mangled from it.

Guy has the 4406 out already. In fact he has a collection of t cases.

No worries about the driveshafts. I won't pull one that might be dented. Much less pay for one.

That is the way to get a t-case. I need to go thru it all over again and replace the input shaft seal on my F-150 (they are common to go bad, I recommend doing it on yours while it is out) and I really don't want to now.

I only mention the driveshafts because I don't think I have ever seen one they didn't screw up. Kinda like truck boxes, gotta make sure and ram the poor thing with a vengeance to make sure its on there good.

Got home a bit earlier than usual and nosed into my parking spot. Normally I back in and its dark and I don't get to walk past the front. I got a rude awakening. Its leaking a mix of ATF and coolant out the top of the rad.

I quit. I don't think I've ever had a vehicle that tried to commit suicide as often as this POS.

As soon as I can replace this pile this thing is coming apart. At this point I don't care if its replaced by another Ford. I'm pretty sour about the whole experience.
:bad:

Sounds like you need to find a dock fast, I think your boat is sinking.
