I need to get my advanced before I can go play in HF, I've only got my basic now...

Yup. It's stock included item in the 990. It's the quietest, fastest, widest tuner I've ever had. Got 24-30 MHz complete coverage with an Antron99 and 1.8-30 MHz complete coverage with my resonant 80m wire dipole.

I've retired everything else (including a TS-870S/AT) since purchasing this rig.

nice. You do much DX'ing, or just searching for someone to rag-chew with? looks like a rig you could have some real fun with...

Mostly clandestine and pirate SWL. Otherwise, all ragchew including DX. Absolutely no contesting/certificate chasing. Best ragchew DX contacts have been KC4AAA on 20m CW and maritime mobiles on both CW and phone.

Drake-o-phile and used to regularly check in the Drake and MidCars nets.

You won't find me in technical discussions.

It's always been fun and never a challenge.

I seldom sleep at night and my habit is to set the rig on some dead frequency while I work, surf, etc. Every once in awhile I catch a stray from some distant place and strike up a QSO. It's always an adventure.

That's how I hooked up with the geographic South Pole station. But it was from Cleveland, OH....20w on 20m at 0400 local time with a 20m 1/2 wave dipole 10' off the second story roof of my apartment building. Band held for about 15 minutes and the station was gone.

6 Mos after I was initially licensed, I participated in a contest event with my Elmer and the three friends I studied and tested with. That was enough for me. Just seemed like too much of a hassle and pointless.
