Bad Oil Leak

My 94' Ranger is leaking oil really bad. Has anybody ever replaced the oil pan on a 4X4, 3.0 extended cab? I want to know how much of a pain in the butt it's going to be. I would appreciate any feedback.

mines doin it too. just seeping though, but i hate any sort of leaks! never done it on a 3.0 before though.

I just replaced my pan last summer. Took a full day. Pulled the motor, trans and put it on a stand. Since I was there and my motor had like 114,000 miles I also replaced the bearings. Wasnt hard at all, just time consuming.

Only tools you need besides basic sockets, wrenches is an engine lift, engine stand, fuel\ac line disconnects, and a power steering pully puller. Everything thing else is just standard tools.

engine lift is out for me, $$$. the funny thing is i have a stand though.

i changed my oil pan gasket when i changed the clutch. i had the transmission out and i got the pan low enough to take out and clean the old gasket.

make sure to get a one piece silicone gasket. much easier to put in if you can;t pull the motor.

Thanks for the insight, Do you have to pull the motor to do it? If yes would it be easier to drop the front axle?

search for it

it takes awhile to explain but i did write a fairly extensive post about doing this the easy way so try to search it out. i did this very same job. some guy emailed me a question and i explained it again and he said it was fairly easy. you do need air tools though. mainly a cut of wheel. or "hot wrench" if your good with it! nevermind i didn't see yours was a 94. i have a 99 so i don't really now how it would work with the good ole TTB.

I know on a 98+ Ranger it will take a full day. However, the engine does not necessarily have to come fully out of the vehicle.

I recently replaced mine, and was able to jack up the engine JUST enough for the oil pan to clear the IFS subframe. However, on a 94 you will be dealing with a different crossmember in your way, of which I have little knowledge on.

Even if you drop the axle the crossmember is what's in the way.

Lift the motor up and do it, but don't come crying back when you find out it was WAY easier to pull the motor in the first place. It sounds like a PITA, but taking a motor out is not that bad assuming you have the proper tools.

i just changed my oil pan gasket all i did was take off top half of intake, exhaust manifolds, unbolted from mounts, took driver side mount off and unbolted oil pan , lifted with lift from 2 front exhaust bolts and snug fit but she came out

Well it's going to cost me close to a grand when it's all said and done. After having to replace broken s@*#! during the whole job. Rust sucks!!! That was the last thing I wanted to dump money into.
