Hey guys, just as the title implies, I'm looking to build a sealed intake filter system for my 84 BII. I've got everything to build the snorkel for the outside (traditional up the windshield to roof line, w/snorkel scoop), but I'm at a loss on what I can use for an air filter setup under the hood. Any ideas? I'm not looking to ford a river, but if I end up in some deep water unexpectedly, I don't want to hydro lock anything.

If you guys have some set ups, let's see 'em! Looking for some inspiration...

Spectre makes a carb hat that bolts down, and converts to a 4" round hole. At that point many options for air boxes.

They also make one that is the round carb air filter, with a tube coming out of it.

Your original air filter housing also works in this way

Yes, EFI or carb?

Also you should switch to an electric fan for radiator, with an override switch so it can be turned off for high water.
Mechanical fan will soak the engine bay which can cause electrical issues and stalls, not a good thing in the middle of a water crossing :)

Also add longer vent hoses on the front and rear differentials, get the ends up as high as possible.

It's carb'd, duraspark conversion. I have seen the spectre carb hat, any thoughts on doing a filter box?

What snorkel are you retrofitting? They usually have a connection specific to the airbox of the intended vehicle. Maybe use an airbox from that, and then connect via tubing to the hat

Im not sure what your entire plans are but on my full-size bronco I drilled a hole in the firewall behind the glove box and mounted a specter there. I built that specifically for deep water and mud.

And yes the electric fan is a must and helps wonders in water crossings. Not so much for the splashing because the whole motor is underwater anyways but more the pulling the radiator into the fan and creating other problems.

Oh, the land cruiser snorkel fits RBVs nice. And it lends itself to universal applications because it's just a 3" tube.

And they're only like $40

Heck, here's one for $22 http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00YNH3MEM/ref=mp_s_a_1_39?qid=1457393901&sr=8-39&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=land+cruiser+snorkel&dpPl=1&dpID=31JrO-Lb0uL&ref=plSrch

I bet you spent at least $22.00 at home Depot, and for that snorkel topper
HAHAHAHAHA, I feel like an ass now lol. I may just buy that anyway because it's a hell of a lot cleaner than what I was going to do! Any pic's of it on a bronco II or Ranger? I may have found a reasonable air box too...

It only works on the 2.8, because you have to add an airbox. But it's on the wrong side as the stock 2.9's airbox.

I'll see if i can dig up a pic or two i snapped.

It goes on the passenger side, right?
