does any buddy have an idea on the interchange for a ford 1998 5.0 i always thought the 5.0 and 302 were the same other than the explorer 5.0 had the gt40 heads. i'm considering buying an explorer that has the 5.o but may need some engine work. question is i have 2 302's 1st is a 84 with 80000 on it and the second is a 88 302 with 65000 on it can i use either of these motors to interchange with the 1998 5.0?the 1998 has 250000 on it and has some issue's

Yes, 302 windsor and 5.0l windsor are the same, made from 1969 to 2000
In the late 1970's metric was starting to be used more
302ci is actually 4.942liters

Ford had the inline-6 300ci and it was called 4.9l

So the 302 got the 5.0l tag to avoid confusion

You can interchange all the parts.
All 302/5.0ls were externally balanced, but '69 to '81 used 28oz, '82 to '00 used 50oz

Truck engines usually have higher torque lower horsepower cams, cars the opposite, so swap those for your use, or just go bigger, lol.

There is also the Coyote 5.0l now, and even a new Boss 302, these are not related to the windsor 302/5.0l

thank's RonD my memory did serve me right. last 302 i built was 20 years ago. in my kitchen for my 71 bronco. i guess i'm going to see if i can talk the guy down a little for explorer.
