I've got a 2000 Ford Ranger XLT with a blown head gasket so I am swapping the engine with a 2001 Explorer 5.0 l. The current transmission is manual and I am wondering if I will come into problems. Also, what's a good price if I were to have the swap done? I'm no mechanic...

You should try searching. This topic comes up all the time. The short answer is no your stock trans won't work.

The long answer is that this topic has come up a LOT recently. When possible everything should be upgraded as a system, so engine and trans together, and when it is not possible, assuming everything else does line up, the engine should be the LAST thing upgraded because it is what does the breaking of other things when parts are mismatched in strength.

Frankly, and I wish this particular comment by itself could be stickied everywhere, when swapping in a 5.0, not only will it not work with your stock transmission, there should be no expectation, or even hope, that it would so please don't ask.

Well in Fullsize-Ford-Truck-Land a lot of engines do share transmissions. 300/302/351...

Way too simple for Compact-Ford-Truck-Land :icon_twisted:

OP, if you want a manual trans shop for a 97-03 4.2 F-150 with a 5 speed. And if you are not a mechanic now, you will be well on your way by time it is over.
