autos for drag racing???

besides manuals get better mpg
You can't shift as fast as a built automatic.

and not anymore, the new autos have better mpg ratings than the manuals from what I've seen.

I like manuals better. I wish my Chevy had a 5spd. But, auto for city or commuting, manual for fun.

Driving an automatic just makes people lazy and not think about the conditions. I prefer a manual, it gives me 100% of the engine power, and maintence is simple for them.

Something I just found out. Ford is going to use a double clutch automatic in the new Focus or of their smaller cars. An automatic with a dry double clutch, that should be fun to drive.

I love driving a manual, been driving one for years.

But theres days where I spend most of the day behind the wheel of a manual (hauling materials in a dump truck or the like) and when it comes to evening and wanting to go out somewhere, I'd rather just have an auto. Especially since I was in a wreck a few years back that caused permanent damage to my right knee.

So if I ever get around to it, I'll be fixing up the only auto truck I have, my 88 Eddie Bauer.

The '97 Ranger I just sold with 208,000 miles on it was a manual. I had just replaced the clutch on it for the first time with 194,000 miles. So I liked the truck with the stick and was good with it.

That said, the GT 5.0 that my wife and I just bought is an automatic due to the fact that she cannot drive a manual. I guess that is my fault for not teaching her but I will have to say some things.
1. This is the first time I have ever driven a car with a six speed auto or stick. (other than that Viper and I only drove that once:D)
2. No matter what other vehicle I had driven, it did not pull like this Mustang. It does not matter if you are in the middle of a gear or between shifts, it is pulling and, if you are w.o.t., it is pulling hard.

I know that this is now officially a thread jack, but I like this engine/trans setup so much that the project Electric Ranger that I have been working on may just go this way instead. It would just be a killer combo.:D

Well, I can't drive manual and I'm lazy... Let's see. Automatic.
Like someone said, unless going performance I'd like a nice relaxing ride.
