So I just got done measuring it and it fell below the specs. I used my feeler gauges and I couldn't shove .140 in between the drivers. I'm hoping I forgot the shims (I really don't think i did though) so at this point I'm not sure what to do.

Also, how exactly do you remove this locker. Every lunch box locker i've installed was very easy but to get them out I get lost and it takes me a couple hours.

If the gap is too narrow you need to REMOVE material instead of add shims, which requires machining down the case or the gears of the locker, altho I've never heard of the Spartan having that problem.

Removal SHOULD be the same as installation. It shouldnt be any more difficult.

The Spartan is different.

It looks like a royal bitch to get it out.

^ 10-4 on that. It looks like a PITA. Good luck :icon_thumby:

I would call a tech advisor from the company and ask them what to do when there is too little of gap WITHOUT the shims.

Thanks! I haven't had a chance to get it out yet but I definitely will tomorrow. It was a royal bitch to get it in...and honestly it took me quite some time.

I'm going to double check to absolutely be sure that there isn't a shim in place. If there isn't I'm going to call Yukon and see what I can do. I'm hoping there is a shim (easy fix) but I'm thinking there is a different problem.

Take a lot of pics when you have it open that you can refer back to without opening it again... You still might have to open it again; but pics help.

Well anyway the locker wasn't all the way to the side so the locker is in spec. It was like .168 or so...so I should be fine. I noticed the gear oil that came out of the diff looks like a chocolate milkshake. I'm not sure why but I'm going to change it again and see if it makes a difference in the locker operation.

Also make sure both tires on that axle with the locker have the exact same PSI in the tires.

I noticed my Powertax will pop or bang once in a blue moon, and sure enough if I keep the PSI's the same it never happens.

5 years later this locker is still a piece of shit. It locks, unlocks, binds, and makes incredibly loud noises. I can't go anywhere without a loud pop coming from my rear end and people looking over to see what I broke. I've owned an Aussie locker before and it was nothing like this. The gap between the drivers is bigger than what they call for. It's at .180 and the range they call for is .145 to .170. Not sure what to do.

I'm tempted to go back to an open diff.

Sounds like the Powertrax Lock-right in my 7.5"

It unlocks when it feels like it.. And that's not very often. It clunks and bangs and makes my whole truck jump around when in parking lots. :dunno:

I have heard the No-slip is better because it has synchros.

The Aussie in my front D35 is much better behaved. It works like it should.

I used to have an Aussie in my Toyota back in the day and it always unlocked and locked when it should. Made a loud ratcheting noise but I thought that was cool.

I'm highly considering going to a 9" and going to a full spool.

I ordered an Aussie locker so we will see how that goes. I'm sure it will fix the issue.
