2001 Ranger XLT: Installed a 95-01 explorer overhead console (non-sunroof) type a month or so ago. Read a couple of install posts and everything went right according to plan. About a week or so ago the temp readings appeared low compared to ambient temperature. Then the numbers started to just freeze no movement at all. I checked all the wiring and everything appeared good. I thought ah, the sensor is going out. When I went to find my sensor, all the items I came across were not at all like the senso I got when I purchased the console. The new Ambient Air temp Sensor is what was indicated for 95-01 Explorer, has the pointed nose and the threaded body for the core support. My sensor had a bullet nose and a pushpin clip for mounting in a small drilled hole. I removed the old sensor and connector, the new sensor & connector are different, the 2 pin connector is reversed on the new connector verses the old connector. The male pins were in the sensor on the old unit. Installed the new sensor and connector, I got 27* & ICE, I live in Hawaii dosen't get below 60*. Disconnected the wires to the sensor and changed polarity no difference. I ohmed the new sensor, was supposed to be 33K @77* was not even close. I got the sensor and connector at NAPA TS4005 & EC59 both are Echlin parts. I am stumped, Bad board, Bad sensor, wrong sensor, what I have now as far as new parts is what is supposed to be for the application, but the configuration of the sensors are completely different than what I originally had.

Well your part numbers look correct. It could well be a bad board in the console.

Like I said in your post in the Interior section here, If you did not wire up the console speed sensor, this could be your problem. Not wiring the speed sensor could cause lock ups and faulty readings.
