I've towed things with my 2.3L Ranger that'll push it all over the place. There's a point where you do really just need something bigger, heavier, etc. 4,000-5,000lbs is about it for a Ranger, any model. Bigger brakes, axles, transmission, will not help you tow anything safer or larger.

Hate to burst your bubble like that, but it's true.

Ive seen really small toyota trucks from the 80s that had a dually rear. One was a camper another was s a box truck lol

Hate to break it to you, but those dually 'Yotas did not have a true dually rear. They had a single rear wheel axle that had a dually kit on it. Those axles will actually break sooner than our 7.5 rear ends because of the way the weight levers against the outer wheels.

not all of those yotas were fake dualies...some were true dualies back home there were a pair of flat beds with GM corp 14 bolts

i seen floater axles, but they werent 14 bolts.

a one ton 4X4 ranger like this guy is describing would weigh at least 5400 pounds. likely a lil more. but would need some huge ass mirrors to tow what it was SAFELY CAPABLE OF. at least 10 k with brakes just like a 150.

1 ton capacity and 30 mpg unladen. sounds like a good idea to me.

yup and they should put that 4.4L powerstroke in it.

10K is doable on a current truck with gears and trailer brakes IMO

yes it is.

but not regularly unless you like fixing transmissions.

the 4.4 is pretty neat. another well intended and fully worked out project, ignorantly collecting dust on the states side of the market, at the blue oval... :annoyed:

the lack of 4.4L support is why i plan on dropping a 4BT in my truck and not it. the 4.4L is a bit of money :icon_rofl:

as for transmission the 5R55 could pull it off with OD off but def not a daily driver of any sorts

if the rotten bastards would package it for here it would be great. i would have rather installed that over the 6.5 in my truck, but only if i could prototype/experimental one out of there for testing.

i have not kept up with it since 08.

and i dont really want an electronic diesel, and it looks like you cant use the old school mechanical stuff on this version either so fawk it for a retrofit. i thought it was possible from the way things were shaking out in testing.

i am ok with my little detroit for now.

i find the 4bt repulsive for daily driving. directly compared theres nothing smooth about them. pretty loud also directly compared. its almost ridiculous.

i cant find one cheap either that dont need work. they get better mpg for sure so i would like to have one in the garage if fuel gets too outrageous.....ratty or not, 5-10 mpg more will see me happily wearing earplugs holding on to a buzzy steering wheel at 6 bux a gallon....

but the db2 on the 6.5 has been eating all the shit i been throwing at it for years, so i cant complain at all.

the 4l80 may be an archaic dinosaur compared to the 5r55, but 10 k wont hurt it

i have seen 40-50MPG out of one running with a 6 spd double overdrive behind it...but yea its loud, annoying and a diesel. as for that 4L80 i have seen them go with about 10K behind them but it was a farm truck that hauled about 10K in hay quite a bit
