Almost every time I go mudding my truck will die when I hit a little water. Usually I'm in second gear with it all the way to the floor and the end result is me getting stuck not from spinning either it just stalls out. Any1 know a solution or as to why this is happening?

94 ranger 5 speed. I was going to put a 4in rough country lift on it if I can figure this issue out.

Air cleaner/filter staying dry?

Do the instruments go dead, so an electrical problem?

EDIS-6 module on my '94 is on the front of the rad support Drivers side, it runs the spark, make sure it's connector is clean and dry, and tight.
Also check coil connector

How long before you can restart it?

I restarted it in about 5 min. It didn't want to even crank. Instrument panels worked like truck was in acc. I didn't check air filter it wasn't that deep. Idk what you mean by edis module though

I didn't try to restart it after it failed to start until I got it out of the hole.

I know this much lol I'm about to put a lift on the truck and some 35s and use it as my play toy cause I'm getting an 08 f150 as my daily driver.

In '94 the 4.0l ignition system hadn't been moved to computer yet, so it has a separate module that connects to Crankshaft Sensor and to the Coil Pack.
The EDIS(Electronic Distributorless Ignition System) module does spark timing and fires the coils.

Crank position sensor is down behind crank pulley, if it's connection wasn't sealed spark would stop when it got wet.

On my '94 4.0l EDIS is on the front of the rad support drivers side, you can see it from underneath.

I found the edis it wasn't the cause I soaked it it has to be the crank positioning sensor I guess. Is there any forum on here for me to post a picture of my connector off the harness? I still can't figure out where it goes after my head gasket replacement. I know it was hooked up before cause I broke the notorious plastic clip lol.

Intake gasket has a minor leak. Mine use to do the same thing, changed the gasket and since then I haven't had a problem, and I've taken it in water up to my windshield.

If you ain't first you're last
yeah crank the engine and check if you have spark. A vacuum leak shouldn't make it not run, yes it will probably kill it when it sucks water, but it should be able to fire back up. Unless your leak is giant, even then if you unplug the brake booster you know your engine will run, just really horribly!

If you don't have spark check to see if the crank sensor is working. If you do have spark then i don't know what the issue is. If your crank sensor is working check the coil's voltage. if the coils voltage checks out okay then try the EDIS like Ron stated.

This is what I have regarding your picture. The wires on the connector appears the same as yours but idk where it would be.
