2300+ Mile Trip in a Bronco II +2000 More

Howdy ya'll. I just wanted to share a few pictures from a trip I just finished in my little Bronco II.

First things first though; 90' Bronco II with a 91' 4.0l (with 200 miles on a top to bottom rebuild at the start of the trip), M5OD, explorer rear springs. So nearly stock. 13' Scamp Fiberglass Trailer.

I went to Denver for 6 weeks to get a license and I camped at three different parks near Denver the entire time. These are the highlights of the traveling to/from.

Parked just outside of Moab, Utah.

In Arches National Park, Utah. (Balancing Rock)

Eisenhower Tunnel, Colorado (11,100' above sea level)

Golden, Colorado

One of my campsites in Denver, Colorado

Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado

Albuquerque, New Mexico (you may or may not recognize the car wash)

Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona

Sedona, Arizona

Camping outside of Flagstaff, Arizona

Dinner on the old Route 66 in Williams, Arizona

The BII held up well for the trip. Even coming home this week in 110+ temperatures, the motor didn't run abnormally hot. I was very impressed with my old truck.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The license I had earned in Denver in the spring got me a new job in SW Ohio. After loading up a shipping trailer in Las Vegas, I packed the camper and hit the road again following I-40/Route 66.

Heading East

Sunset at the Arizona/New Mexico border

Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo, Texas

Pit stop for some food and culture in Amarillo, Texas

Electric hookup "campsite" in Hinton, Oklahoma

Hard-parked at the Vacuum Cleaner Museum in St. James, Missouri

Parked across from the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri

Now home among the corn in Ohio

Once again, I have no complaints out of the truck. I love getting one of these older RBV's out and driving long distances.

Is that the car-wash in Albuquerque, NM that was made famous in "Breaking Bad"?

Nice pictures, and cool BII! I hope to do something like this in my '93 Ranger during my sabbatical.

It is the very car wash. We drove to the house too but the owners were playing sentry on chairs in the front yard.

I wonder how many people drive to the house with shaved heads pork-pie hats and dark RayBan Wayfarers...

Wow, great pictures, thank you for sharing. I recently picked up an 88 B2, and would love to do some travelling. Doubt I'll do any towing with it, not very confident in the A4LD transmission's ability to move the B2, let alone pull anything behind it.

This thread just goes to show these aging vehicles don't necessarily mean they aren't reliable enough to travel the country in.

Wow, another great trip. That bronco 2 and trailer look great out on the road. How have you kept the back end of your Bronco 2 from sagging though? My 88 doesn't even have a tow hitch and the back is sagging. Any tips to correct this and keep it from happening again?

I'm thinking of putting a hitch on my bronco 2 but more so to haul a bicycle rack than for towing, as I know the A4LD isn't exactly a great transmission for towing LOL.

Thank you! I swapped junkyard Explorer springs onto the rear from a four door. Mine were sagging terribly too. I think it was probably the best $50 I've put into the truck. I definitely recommend it.

Do I need just the springs or do I need everything, shackles, etc? I need to rebuild the engine in my B2 as well, it has the notorious lifter rattling and I'm sure the rings are shot as it is smoking pretty bad. Runs and drives great just need to do the rebuild before it gets any worse LOL.

I had an 84 Bronco 2 previously which had more problems than I could count and needed a lot of body work, rather needed a new body LOL. I found my 88 B2 over the summer and started putting some money into it and I've been using it as my DD for the past couple months now.

I'm hoping to get the engine rebuilt this spring, then start going on some trips.
