IIRC the main plug connection below the brake master cylinder connect's the under hood wiring (EFI wiring, ignition wiring, headlight's ect) to the interior wiring, (PCM, gauge's, ect), on the older 1988 it should have a different shaped plug then that of the 89+ plug, the easiest way is just unplug the wiring harness from the fuel injector's, sensor's, ect on the engine and just swing the harness up out of the way and do the same with the donor vehicle

this will be my first motor swap ever. I have other things I would to do such as lift and brush guard front bumper and brush guard tail light covers and if I can find a light bar for a nice pair of kc lights. its a clean bronco and the guy I got it from put a lot of work into it so that's why I have no problem swapping motors. after swapping the motors ill be looking to part out my 1988 ranger. 5 speed , 4x4 . or if someone does my motor swap ill give them the ranger. lol

The 89 and 90 2.9 had an improved stronger head design to help alleviate the cracking problems. This won't effect putting an 88 engine in a 90 B2. If the heads are good on your 90 engine, you may want to pull and save them after the motor is out.

Just the strength of the heads on the engine. The harness will be the same, you might have to splice a couple wires. Which isn't to difficult.
