Been wanting a sweet old truck since I was 16. Just picked up this gem not too long ago and hope to start rippin into her. Pics to come.

A few questions though. I'm new to trucks. I have no idea what's stock and whatnot on this truck. It's a 2.9 v6 it looks like I have a Dana 35 front. (Ten bolts) and then when I was climbing under the back I could not find an axel tag but I found this set of numbers on the housing Fotw4025aa it also has ten bolts on the cover. Some digging I did led me to beleive I had a 8.8 rear end. Which I understand is also not stock on this year. Does this indicate someone did a swap on them?

I am loving the truck. Just moved up the the mountains near grand junction in Colorado and have been peeling around in some trails. This thing can't get stuck!

Thanks for help y'all.

Post up a picture of the rear end. That will help with a positive ID. The number you found on it looked like a part number, so I punched it into Google and got a bunch of hits from F150 forums, which leads me to believe it is likely an 8.8. If you have a D35 and 8.8 in an 87 they were swapped in, since those axles would not have been available in a Ranger that year. If that is the case, good find.

If you can get the pinch bolt out of the front diff (the bolt behind the diff, driverside) without moving the radius arms you have a D28. The bigger pumpkin moves this bolt over and it will not come out otherwise (at least that is what I have been told.
8.8 rear....

D35....

She also seems to sit a fair deal higher than most stock rangers I've seen. There is no body lift on it considering it doesn't have that awful gap on the back bumper. But she sure is pretty huh? I like the color even though it was a VERY poor rattle can job.

It does appear to have a lift kit in it (4" maybe) the bracket on the passenger side front looks to be aftermarket. One would assume that if the front was donw they did it correctly on the rear and used new lift springs and not blocks. Just what Im getting from your pics.

If Im correct, be sure to watch that bracket. I run a 4" Superlift on my 84 and my Explorer and both brackets did this.....

I went in and rewelded them and then welded in gussets to those angles.

If you wheel it, they will break on you.

Awesome. I will be sure to watch that bracket. Now I just need to get my hands on some bigger tires!

She's got a pretty large hole on the drivers side floor board. At first it was a nuisance. But I like having a place to spit my seeds.

It most definitely has blocks. Can you not see them on the rear axel in the picture? Or is the block something that sits on top of that chuck that attaches the leafs to the axel.

My bad. Didn't realize rangers had stock blocks in the back!

The block is the factory bump stop. these are lift blocks.....

I have since taken them out and used springs. Here is a better pic (2 blocks 2 bumpstops)....

Cool. Blocks seem sketchy to me... Thanks for the help!
