Hey guys! I got a bit of a project on my hands. It's a 1989 Ford Bronco 2 XLT with about a 3 inch suspension lift and 2 inch body lift that I somehow managed to stuff a 5.0L V8 302 into out of a 1996 Explorer (Meaning it has the GT40 heads). I've installed a little rougher camshaft into it and a 4 barrel 650 cfm summit racing carburetor on it. I also got a M5R1 mazda type manual transmission and transfer case out of a 1994 F-150 installed and have plans to swap the axle out of an explorer true trac. It is almost done and can actually move right now but there's still a few things left to do. Two of them I need some help with. I'm replacing the whole gauge cluster and installing some after market ones. The first problem is I can't find a wiring diagram for the gauges anywhere to help me figure out which wire goes to what. The second problem is I can't find where the speedometer cable is supposed to connect to either my transmission or my transfer case. Any help and knowledge is appreciated.

Welcome to TRS :)

Speedo cable goes to transfercase on 4x4s
But..........Rangers got electronic speedometers in 1995, not sure what year that happened with F-150, this meant no speedo cable hook up on transfer case, speed sensor was used on rear axle in 1998, part of existing ABS system Ford used it as speedometer signal.
From 1995 to 1997 Rangers the speed sensor was still on the transfercase and can be pulled out, inside you will find regular speedometer gear setup that can be converted to cable use
Ranger speedometer changes over the years seen here: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/speedometer.shtml

F-150 should be an M5OD-R2 trans, R1 was used for Ranger/Explorer 3.0l/4.0l and 4cyl engines.

Good page to book mark here: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/index.shtml

Look in electrical diagrams
Ford didn't change wire colors much over the years

Welcome to the TRS. That's a good looking rig there. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say we need more pics of it and the build process. Thanks for sharing and good luck, lots of info and smart people here to help you.

Thanks guys. Made a few discoveries. Found out that some F-150s in 94 came with mechanical speedometer, some came with electric. I apparently got a transfer case out of one with an electric speedometer. But, the only difference between the two is the tail housing has a hole in it and the shaft has a gear. Both of which i found and ordered. Here's another pic, this time of the engine. Sorry for the crap quality of it all. I don't have a smart phone and am not in the habit of taking pics of everything .
