Seems my outboard seals leaking. Or more specifically pouring was the description given by local Ford Dealer. (I know, I know I should do all my work myself, but I'm working 6-7 days a week). Anyway, doesn't look too hard to replace seals and bearings. Am I missing something???? Also, need part numbers, probably all Timken, and what else should I do while I'm in the process.

Thx,

I am assuming you are talking about the rear axle.

I believe the Ranger 8.8 and 7.5 rear axles both use the same outer bearings and seals. The 31 spline 8.8 from the explorer uses bigger seals and bearings.

I used this when I rebuilt my 8.8: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/fms-m-1225-b1/overview/make/ford

Make sure you can get the fill plug out of the diff housing before draining the fluid. This proved to be difficult on my original 7.5 axle.

Renting a slide hammer will make life a lot easier. It will make quick work of pulling the bearings and seals.

Look up how to pull the axles before hand. Be very careful not to break the bolt holding the differential cross pin in.

If you have a factory limited slip, you need to add friction modifier when you refill the diff.

This is something I discovered on my truck... It is definitely something to check when you pull the axle shafts. My problem was not bad seals, it was the axle shafts. http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1486672&postcount=441

Hope this all helps.
