94 4.0 upgrades

The list of planned upgrades I have are
Comp 422 cam
Hedman headers
Dynomax exhaust
Mild port and polish on the heads and have them milled down a little.
Better coil

Would I need a tune for the cam, and are valve springs a must with that specific cam? Also what gains am I looking at with all of that?

Comp 988 dual springs are required along with the machine work to make them fit on the heads. 5.525" pushrods are required (from smith bros, 3/16" ball ends, 5/16" tube diameter)

No you don't need a tune from what I've read, but it would benefit you.

Probably in the ballpark of 30-40hp.

I reccomend you get new rocker arms too. Depending on the wear and if they still look good get new lifters too.

I think new rockers would be a good thing considering the truck hs 205k on it.

Is there a link to those pushrods?

pushrods.net just give them a call, they're very familiar with ranger applications

and i believe you'll need 5.550" pushrods for the 422, not 5.525"

Oh I thought it was 5.550" for the 410 and 5.525" for the 422... Have not installed or checked length for the 422 so I have no idea from personal experience

Would make sense honestly for both to be 5.550" considering they have the same base circle..

So 5.550 pushrods, with a 3/16 ball end and 5/16 Diameter? Also what are some common wear items I should look for when I have the engine torn down?

The pushrods and rocker arms. That's about it, uncommon wear items you should still check out regardless are the crank journals, rod and main bearings, cylinder bore/condition, cracks in the heads (which is actually kind of common, look between the valve seats)

Even tho they don't really wear out I would say change the timing set. Also check the cam sensor synchronizer make sure the teeth are still good and that the bearings in the feel good (i.e. No roughness)

I'm probably going to end up replacing all of the valve train parts. Lifters, rocker arms, and I was thinking the timing chain also. If the heads have cracks in them will they be pretty visible? I had the valve covers off to change the gaskets and didn't notice any cracks.

Also, does any one make head studs for the 4.0?
