Hi there I have a 1993 ranger xlt extended cab with a 4.0l auto. My question is, How much weight/toungue weight can the stock xlt bumper pull.... I want to tow a trailer with a 700 pound quad. The bumper is in good condition.

Sent from inside my 1993 ranger xlt 4.0, most likely

It's not ideal, but I have towed heavier on the bumper. You should be ok. I'd look into a frame-mounted receiver if you want to do it regularly though.

Questions:

1. How much is your truck worth?
2. How much is your quad worth?
3. How much is your trailer worth?

Why would you risk towing with the bumper over a $200 Trailer hitch?

If you're not making mistakes, you're not learning.
the bumper is good up to about 2000 lbs or so (should be stamped on the bumper somewhere), 200 lbs tongue weight. Or it's listed in the manual (if you have it). OBVIOUSLY rust permitting on the capacity.

Unless you're pulling it with a huge trailer, or a smaler trailer that's built like an absolute tank, you'll be fine. I'm guessing the standard 2 snowmobile trailer sized?

If you tow regularly at all, do invest in a receiver style hitch. Many are less than $200 as well.

Yea I agree mine was 115 bucks shipped to my door with everything I need. It is a band brand American made one too. Hard to argue using the bumper when you can do it right for that price...look in eBay and just buy from a reputable seller. For under 125 You can get a class 3 hitch that can handle quite a bit. In my case it's overkill, but I'd rather have that than using the bumper which doesn't even mount to the frame directly. Your relying on the bumper brackets which are ok in a pinch with a small trailer, but I wouldn't trust then beyond moving stuff around the yard or a very short trip. It's probably fine if your careful, but if you ever really want to tow with any regularity or just have a rear recovery point get a real hitch.
