Just was bored and browsing thru the axle specs on the main page. I see there is a "Ford 6 7/8th" axle listed.

Mistake? Or just something ive never heard of. I thought everything ran the 7.5 (4.0 models excluded).

If you're not making mistakes, you're not learning.
Did a quick look, and it seems Ford did make them, but they haven't seemed to stick around.

There's a lot more information for Falcons and Mustangs, and yes, they did come in early Rangers with 2.0L engines.

ALTHOUGH, nearly all the mentionings I've seen on this axle are from members of forums outside the U.S. So I'm guessing it was more for export markets, including the cars.

Best example I found, even has a picture of the little guy about 2/3 the way down :icon_rofl: >https://fordsix.com/viewtopic.php?t=69291

They did some goofy crap like that on the early ones, like the 83's. They are not quite as standardized as the later ones.

8.8 is very common on V6 4x4s, not just 4.0 trucks.

You sure about that? I thought anything that had a 4 popper, 2.8/2.9/3.0 ran the 7.5?

I'm not sure about the 2.9 era, but for sure some of the 3.0 trucks got it. Not mine though...

I think 8.8 is a GVW thing.

Not overly common in a 3.0 but not a cut and dry it never happens thing.

I have read in the 80's some cab chassis trucks could be had with a 31 spline 8.8, never heard of or seen pictures of one though.
