Hi all, don't post here much but I've learned a ton from you guys. I have a 1988 Ranger, Std cab, 2wd, long bed, 2.9, auto. I'm suffering through the slow death of my A4LD. Lost OD about a year ago, and now it slips, and sometimes stalls out in reverse. This is a good old truck, too good to give up on, but in my opinion, not worth the price quotes I've received for a rebuild. Plus, I see plenty of warnings about problems after rebuilds, and remans are ridiculously expensive. I would like some input as to the best option here. Do I roll the dice on a used trans, or maybe do a swap? A manual swap appeals to me, but I'm searching for suggestions as to which trans is the most straightforward to install and is the least hassle to do. I'm pretty capable mechanically, just looking for the best option. I'd stick with an auto to make it simple but I don't know what a good option is there either. Any input is appreciated, Thanks in advance.
