Hi

I have a 98 XLT regular cab.

I need to know if I have remote power locking installed as I don't have the remote control?

The truck has power windows and locking operational via the rocker switches on the armrests.

I have two keys but neither of these have remotes included.

My question is does anyone think that I may have the facility installed but just need the remote, or is installation needed?

Thanks in advance.

I have never seen a Ranger with power locks that doesn't have the keyless entry remote. I'm not an expert on 98's but I would think there should be a remote. I would suggest taking it to a dealer if that's the case.

Better yet, get a good alarm system installed. That's something every Ranger owner should invest in.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply.

The alarm is on the agenda.

The dealer thing is a little more difficult as I'm in the UK :)

UK Ford dealers don't like US stuff too much!

Try this.

To program the transmitters yourself:

1-Insert a key in the ignition and turn from 3(Off) to 4(On) eight times in rapid succession (within 10 seconds) with the eighth turn ending in the 4(On) position.
2-The doors will lock/unlock to confirm that programming mode has been entered.
3-Within 20 seconds, program a remote transmitter by pressing any button on a transmitter. The doors will lock/unlock to confirm that the remote transmitter has been programmed. (If more than 20 seconds pass before pressing a remote transmitter button, the programming mode will exit and the procedure will have to be repeated.)
4-Repeat the previous step to program additional remote transmitters. The doors will lock/unlock to confirm that each remote transmitter has been programmed.
5-When you have completed programming the remote transmitters, turn th ignition to 3(Off) or wait 20 seconds. Again the doors will lock/unlock to confirm programming has been completed.
That's it!

Yes it is how to program the remotes, but it should tell you if you have keyless.

If its a US built ranger, the 98 model year came standard with remote keyless entry on the XLT models.

Tried the ignition on and off process but the truck didn't lock/unlock.

Do I have any other way of checking please?

Just tried this and it worked for my 2002 Ranger. Only thing is if you have more than 1 remote they must be reprogrammed at the same time.
